The Virtual Archive

Spring 2019

Press Release:
Through a fascination of architecture in game design and a devotion to the preservation of history, Schuyler Meyer of Millbrook, NY presents The Virtual Archive. A fully immersive and symbolic virtual reality museum of past works of both his photography and other digital media projects, with a focus on environmental design. The Virtual Archive, split into two sections, features a science fiction themed gallery, where the photos tell their own stories, and a fantasy themed library, featuring videos of completed past works. This vault of award-winning and international pieces was developed in the Unity Engine and designed for the Oculus VR headset.

Michi, Unknown
未知 / Michi / Unknown
未知 / Michi / Unknown

Spring 2024

Inspired by both Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sentinel" and the ever famous monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, "Michi / 未知" translates to "unknown" in Japanese, but when pronounced incorrectly, it also kind of sounds like "mystery". However, since "michi" is an adjective rather than a noun, this probably looks funny to native speakers.

Fall 2018

A 3D animation with a cyberpunk sci–fi setting. The character heads to the Konbini. (Konbini is a Japanese convenience store). Originally, I was going for more of a noir style animation, but ended up decided to go the cyberpunk route instead.

⊳ All models were created in Autodesk Maya and rendered using Arnold

⊳ The vehicles and fence were downloaded from a free asset store – though I added the lights afterwards

A five minute visual novel style narrative game. A tale that follows #482 and friends through a tale of companionship, separation, and isolation in a world where togetherness is the most important aspect of life.

Project:
⊳ Created as a final project for Clarkson University's Video Game Narrative class

⊳ Developed in Unity / C# with Fungus

⊳ All models were created in Autodesk Maya

⊳ Some of the textures were created in Photoshop, the rest were downloaded from the Unity Asset Store

Fall 2019

Developed in Unity / C#
Made for a final project in Elementary Numerical Methods at Clarkson University

Project:
⊳ Each moving sphere represents a shopper / person shopping on Black Friday

⊳ Each person has three emotional states: Normal / content [Blue], angry [Red], happy [Light Blue / Cyan]

⊳ The stationary white spheres represent items to be purchased

⊳ Each person starts in the "normal" emotional state at the entrance / checkout

⊳ When they bump into another person, they become "angry"

⊳ When they pick up an item they want, they become "happy"

⊳ Each person has a shopping list of five items

⊳ Each item has a limited quantity (25)

⊳ Each time a person picks up (touches) an item, they move to the next one on their list and that item decreases its quantity by one

⊳ If an item's quantity reaches zero, it disappears and can no longer be picked up

⊳ If a person finds an item is no longer available, they move on to another item

⊳ When a person grabs all five items on their list, they move to checkout

Representation:
The original outburst of "shoppers / persons"
⊳ This represents "shoppers / persons" at the door waiting for the store to open and then a sudden flood when the store does open

Sometimes the "person" stalls at an item
⊳ This represents someone being indecisive on whether or not to buy the item

⊳ If there are two or more "persons" stalled at an item, they may be in argument about who can take the item

The Adventure Game
The Adventure Game
The (text) Adventure Game

Summer 2015

Developed in MATLAB

Project:
⊳ This was my first personal project (and anything with some scale) that involved coding of any sort

⊳ MATLAB was the first programming language I ever learned and this was my first "big" programming project

⊳ For me though, this project was so much fun at the time, and what really helped me decide to switch majors to software engineering (from aeronautical engineering)

⊳ After replaying it all these years later, I have noticed sooo many typos. Please ignore them

⊳ For the game itself, there are three (3) ways (paths) to win. The video shows one of the ways

⊳ The map is hand drawn / computer painted and is for visual reference

⊳ To view the code on my GitHub or try the game yourself (MATLAB necessary), visit here

Hockey Cards
Hockey Cards
Hockey Cards

Spring 2020

Growing up, I loved getting baseball cards. A year or so ago, I was looking for women's hockey cards and found next to none. There were some Team Canada cards and the random Hilary Knight card, but that was pretty much it. So, I decided to make some myself.

Project:
⊳ These are drafts / mockups / first renders / etc.

⊳ All information is copy/pasted from the NWHL roster pages

⊳ Photos are my own, for the portraits on the back – I "guessed" who took them

⊳ Logos are from Google Image Search, some are low quality because that's all I could find

⊳ The cards themselves can be used as templates for other players

⊳ Players on these cards were picked based on which photos I took that looked like "hockey card photos"

⊳ Cards made in Photoshop, 3D models and animation made in Maya, video made in Premiere

Note: These are not officially affiliated with the NWHL or anyone else. They are simply a personal project at the moment.

Board Game
Board Game Concept
Board Game Concept

Fall 2018

A board game concept most similar to the classic Battleship.

⊳ Two teams (as many players per team)

⊳ If you are on the blue side, you can not see the enemy's game pieces on the red side, however, if a red team game piece crosses into the blue side, blue team will be able to see it

⊳ If you are on the blue side and you have a game piece on the red side, you can see your own game piece, but not the other team's game pieces (subject to change)

Movement

⊳ Can not cross thick black line in middle (wall)

⊳ Game pieces can occupy 1-4 little squares (up to 1 big square), depending on the size of the game piece (ship / vehicle / unit)

⊳ Water-based game pieces can not move on the land tiles and land-based game pieces can not move on the water tiles

⊳ Game pieces can move in any direction (forward, side, backward, diagonal)

⊳ Movement distance depends on the individual game piece's attributes
